About Mtemere
Selous, without the crowd.
Mtemere sits on the Rufiji River inside the Nyerere-Selous ecosystem — Africa's largest protected wilderness. Six cabins, one concession, and a team that's run this stretch of river for two decades. We built a lodge for people who want the bush unfiltered: boat safaris at dawn, walking trails through miombo woodland, and nights loud with hippo and nightjar instead of generators.
Philosophy
What makes it Mtemere.
Every cabin sits within earshot of the river. Boat safaris launch from the lodge deck.
Six cabins across a private concession — no shared game drives, no queued sightings.
Open-air structures, natural materials, nothing between you and the reserve at night.
Guest stories
From the river, in their words.
Fell asleep to hippos every night. Never saw another vehicle on a single drive.
The boat safaris alone were worth the trip. Staff know the river by heart.
